Liverpool cruised to a 3-0 win over Southampton at Anfield on manager Jurgen Klopp’s 600th game as Manchester City made it easy at Cardiff City with a 5-0 win on Saturday.
The league leaders shot into the lead in the 10th minute as Saints defender Wesley Hoedt deflected Xherdan Shaqiri's cross-shot into his own net.
The Reds have not lost in five league games this season, and Joel Matip made sure their perfect start to the season was maintained when he headed home a corner kick in the 21st minute.
Mohamed Salah extended the lead three minutes into the added time of the first half when the Egyptian taped in after Shaqiri free-kick had bounced the woodwork and came back into play.
Sergio Aguero, Bernardo Silva, and Ilkay Gundogan put Manchester City on winning path with three first-half goals before Riyad Mahrez completed the rout with a brace in the second half.
Pep Guardiola’s men were frustrated in the half hour, but Arguero changed the complexion of the game in the 32nd minute. Bernardo Silva fed the ball through to Aguero, who picked up the pass inside the box and quickly sent it into the right side of the goal.
Bernardo Silva latched on to Leroy Sane’s cross in the penalty box in the 35th minute to power a header into the top left corner, leaving goalkeeper Neil Etheridge beaten.
Ilkay Gundogan made it three in the 44th minute when he got a shot away from the edge of the box and scored into the top right corner.
Riyad Mahrez extended the lead in the 67th minute after he fired home from close range having latched on to a pass from Ilkay Gundogan, and completed the beating in the 89th minute picking up the ball from a rebound before unleashing a low shot into the bottom left corner.
