Spurs Back On Winning Way

Tottenham Hotspurs suffered scary late moments but still managed to pull through a 2-1 win at Brighton and Hove Albion to halt their recent winless run.

Mauricio Pochettinno’s men lost 2-1 at Watford and 2-1 at home to Liverpool, and a 2-1 loss at Inter Millan in the Champions League set Hotspurs up for a defining moment before Saturday ’s game at the Falmer Stadium.

But Harry Kane salved the wounds from the last defeats when he put the visitors on winning ways with a perfectly taken penalty. Erik Lamela doubled up the lead before Brighton pulled one back in injury time to cap their ten minutes of dominance.

Toby Alderweireld peeled away from his marker and got to the end of a corner kick in the 10th minute only to see his header hit the belly of the crossbar and out to safety, Heung-Min Son headed off target in the 18th minute before Dany Ross crossed dangerously into the Brighton penalty box but saw it cleared to safety.

Anthony Knockaert crossed into the penalty box in the 34th minute, but found no connector, before Kieran Trippier’s free-kick was handled by Glen Murray for a penalty which Harry Kane powered into the bottom left corner.

Glenn Murray drifted into the box to meet the ball from a free kick and planted a header towards the middle of the target in the 52st minute but saw Verthoghen blocked it to safety, Christian Eriksen missed the post narrowly with a ferocious shot a  minute after, before Solomon March hit a feeble shot at Gazzaniga in the 64th minute.

Shane Duffy had a goal disallowed for offside in the 64th minute, three minutes before Anthony Knockaert forced a save from Paulo Gazzaniga with a low drive.

Solomon March was replaced with Alireza Jahanbaghsh in the 73rd minute as Erik Lamela came on for Heung-Min Son, and the Argentine made his presence felt a minute later when he latched on to Danny Rose’s pass inside the box to shoot into the bottom right corner while Mathew Ryan looked on helplessly.

The Brighton goalkeeper took turns to save two dangerous shots from Harry Kane in the 87th and 89th minutes.

Anthony Knockaert made a solo run into the visitors' penalty box four minutes into injury time and pulled the trigger from inside the box to beat Gazzaniga with a strike into the bottom right corner.

The Brighton attacker could have leveled up for the hosts minute later with a chance inside the penalty box but shot feebly into Gazzaniga’s hands.
