Jorge Mendes Slams EUFA Over Ronaldo Snub
By Joshua Walters
Super Agent Jorge Mendes has described Luka Modric’s winning of the 2017/18 UEFA Men’s Footballer of the Year award as ‘shameful’ and claimed Cristiano Ronaldo was robbed.
Ronaldo scored 15 goals, won four Man of the Match awards and had his overhead kick against Juventus adjudged the Goal of the Competition, as Real Madrid won their third straight Champions League title in five years last season.
Despite the personal and club achievements, Ronaldo, who joined Juventus this summer, came second to former Santiago Bernabeu teammate, Luka Modric, and Jorge Mendes thinks the award was skewed.
“It’s ridiculous, shameful, the winner is not in doubt, as Ronaldo is the best in his position", Mendes said of his client. "Football is played on the field and that’s where Cristiano won. He scored 15 goals, carried Real Madrid on his back and conquered the Champions League again.”
