Antoine Griezmann has been named the 2017/18 Europa League Player of the Season at a ceremony on Friday.

The Atletico Madrid offensive midfielder beat competition from teammate, Diego Godin, and Marseille's kingpin, Dimitri Payet.

The France World Cup winner won the Man of the Match award as Atletico Madrid whipped Payet’s Marseille 3-0 in the Europa League final at the Parc Olympique Lyonnais in Décines-Charpieu, France.

Griezmann made eight appearances in the competition, scored six goals and made four assists.

Griezmann also led the Spanish club to beat city rivals and Champions League winners, Real Madrid, 4-2, after extra time, to win the UEFA Super Cup at the A. Le Coq Arena in Tallin, Estonia.

The left-footed player would look back to a successful season in which he won the Europa Cup, UEFA Super Cup, and the World Cup, and the feat puts him at an advantageous position in the contest for these year’s FIFA Best Player award and the Ballon d’Or.
