BREAKING: Court Sentences Jose Mourinho To One Year In Prison For Tax Fraud
By Joshua Walters
The Provincial Court of Spain has slapped Jose Mourinho with a one-year prison sentence for tax fraud.
The Portuguese trainer was facing two counts of tax crimes and accepted his guilt for both charges at the court on Tuesday.
The former Manchester United manager is accused of owing Spanish tax authorities about €3.3 million (£2.9million) during his time with Real Madrid.
Mourinho will, however, not do the time in prison thanks to Spanish laws which allow first-time offenders to serve their sentences out of detention when the duration is less two years.
Reports in the Mirror say that Mourinho accepted the sanctions at the court on Tuesday, and will pay a fine of about £1.75 million.
Mourinho appeared in court on Tuesday and seemingly accepted a six-month term for each of the two tax-related crimes he was accused of, totalling a one-year suspended sentence.
