Mane Eager To Avoid Past Mistakes In Title Hunt
Liverpool forward Sadio Mane insists the league leaders have learnt from their previous mistakes and will not allow their healthy lead at the top slip this time around.
The Reds held a seven-point lead in early January last season but ended up missing out on a first Premier League title to Manchester City by a single point.
This season however, Liverpool have been almost flawless; only a 1-1 draw with Manchester United at Old Trafford in October has prevented Jurgen Klopp’s men from winning their opening 18 games of the season, and they also have a game in hand against West Ham United.
The European champions are 13 points clear of second-placed Leicester City, whom they resoundingly beat 4-0 at the King Power Stadium on Boxing day.
With Liverpool’s lead at the top looking unassailable, Mane wants to use the lessons learnt from last season to maintain the title charge.
"If you lose the league that hurts you in the head mentally, so we always focus on the same target – we want to win something," he told UK newspapers, via The Telegraph.
"We have learned from the mistake last year. That was a tough time for us and I think we have learned a lot from it."
"I think we are better this season than last year in what we're trying to do. It's another adventure for us. Let's keep working and try to keep things at the same level," the Senegalese added.
"I think you have to sacrifice yourself at this moment when you are in our situation. You have to deal with it and keep going. We are all working hard every minute of the day to get better and better."
