Pellegrini: Klopp Always Win With Offside Goals

By Joshua Walters

West Ham United manager, Manuel Pellegrini, has accused his Liverpool counterpart, Jurgen Klopp, of always depending on offside goals to win games.

West Ham United came behind to draw 1-1 against Liverpool at the London Stadium on Monday, with Sadio Mane’s opener for the Reds smelling of offside, following the positioning of the assist-giver, James Milner.

Pellegrini was disgusted that the goal was made to stand despite his side levelling up through Michail Antonio just six minutes later.

Divock Origi, caught in an offside-position,nearly won the game for Liverpool with the last kick of the evening when Naby Keita chipped the ball into his path inside the penalty area, but the Belgian’s effort was saved by Lukasz Fabianski.

Pellegrini was asked by reporters at the post-match presser of his comments on the two critical offside situations, and he took time to remind the latter how Klopp has always depended on offside goals to win games.

"It doesn't matter [what was said], Klopp is used to winning [with] goals offside.”

"He beat me against Malaga with Borussia Dortmund with a goal seven metres offside, so he cannot complain about anything."

"I was pleased with the performance because I thought we played a very good game, but I'm disappointed with the result because they scored a goal which was clearly offside.”

"We missed three or four chances, especially in the first 35 minutes, which could have finished the game. We missed those opportunities so we had a draw in a game which we could have won.”

"We played with the pace we had shown in other games again. In the Premier League, you can't play against anyone if you don't play at a high pace.”

"If you give time and space to players, they will make good decisions and score goals. We worked similarly tonight as we did against Arsenal, but we created more chances.”

"We then lost three games away from home but I think the team we saw tonight is the team we must see from now until the end of the season."
