Egypt goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawy has been ruled out for the rest of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Shenawy suffered a dislocated shoulder in second half stoppage time as Egypt drew 2-2 with Cape Verde on Monday.

The 35-year-old joins Mohamed Salah in the treatment room, with the Liverpool forward's participation also in doubt because of a hamstring injury.

In a statement concerning Shenawy's injury, the Egypt Football Association said: "As a result, he will miss the team's remaining matches in the Africa Cup of Nations."

Reserve goalkeeper Gabaski will man the posts for the rest of the tournament.

The National Bank Egypt shot stopper similarly replaced El Shenawy in goal from the round of 16 onwards at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations because of injury.

Egypt finished second in their group behind Cape Verde after drawing all their games 2-2.
