Football in Italy has been suspended indefinitely since early March in an attempt to check the spread of Covid-19.

Lazio currently sit second on the Serie A table with just a point behind leaders Juventus, and are hoping to win their first league title since the 1999-2000 season.

With Italy having over 193,000 confirmed cases and over 25,000 deaths linked to coronavirus, many have opined that the current season should be abandoned, a suggestion Lotito labeled as despicable.

In an interview with TG Regione, the 62-year-old says the season must be completed and insists he hopes Le Aquile will pick up from where they left.

“We’re not talking about my battle, we’re talking about being aware of the risks that exist if the season doesn’t restart,” the Italian entrepreneur said.

“Those who oppose it clearly don’t know what they’re talking about. Football’s an industry that generates money, over 1.2bn of it, so we must consider the consequences if we don’t restart.”

“When the championship was interrupted, it has led us to a decline in physical, athletic and even concentration.”

“I hope the players are aware of being a large group and a great team and that if they start again and I think it is essential to do so, they will find the same situation of union, determination and willingness to achieve certain objectives ".
