Valverde Agrees One Year Contract Extension With Barca

Ernesto Valverde has agreed to extend his Barcelona contract by a further year, the Catalan club announced on Friday.

The Spanish trainer, according to Barcelona's official website, will commit himself to a further year with the option for another extension.

Barcelona has been in talks with Valverde over a new deal, and the latter gave the club his word on Thursday following the acceptance of the details of the contract by the two parties.

The new deal agreed upon by the former Athletic Bilbao manager will expire at the end of 2019/20 season.

Valverde joined Barcelona in 2017 to replace the current Spanish national team coach Luis Enrique and has steered a run wildly accepted by the result-oriented club.

“FC Barcelona and Ernesto Valverde, the first team coach, have reached an agreement to extend the contract between the two parties for another season (2019/20) with the option for one more (2020/21),”

“Since his arrival as coach, Valverde has recorded some spectacular numbers only achieved by a select few. In his first season he won both the league title and the Copa del Rey and in 2018-19 he has already added the Spanish Super Cup to that list.

“In total the coach has led FC Barcelona in 96 official matches, winning 65, drawing 22 and just nine defeats. Of those 65 victories, 43 have come in the league, 11 in the Copa del Rey, 10 in the Champions League and one in the Spanish Super Cup."
