Werner Joins Tottenham On Loan For Rest Of Season

The former Chelsea striker has joined Ange Postecoglou's side on loan from RB Leipzig for the rest of the season with the option to make the move permanent.

Werner spent two seasons with Chelsea between 2020 and 2022, scoring 23 goals in 89 games and winning the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup.

Despite coming to England with a prolific reputation, Werner largely struggled in front of goal at Chelsea and was guilty of profligacy on numerous occasions.

The 27-year-old returned to Leipzig in the summer of 2022 and found some form, scoring 16 goals in all competitions.

This season his involvement has been limited, with just two goals scored in 14 appearances.

"First of all, I’m very happy to be here, I’ve joined a very, very big club," Werner told the club's official website.

"We have often played against each other already – it doesn’t matter if I was playing for Chelsea or Leipzig, they were always big, big games to play against Spurs – and now I’m happy to be part of the team at the Club and I’m really looking forward to it."
