Former England Manager Sven-Goran Eriksson has been appointed as the new head coach of the Philippines national team.
The 70-year old has signed a six-month contract and will lead the Street Dogs to their first ever Asian cup in January 2019.
Eriksson comes with loads of experience, having led England to the 2002 and 2006 FIFA World Cups, and Ivory Coast to the 2010 global showpiece.
The Swedish boasts of immense experience in club football management, having handled Italy’s Lazio and English sides Manchester City and Leicester City.
Eriksson last managed in the Chinese League One, taking charge of Shenzhen FC in December 2016 before being sacked six months later.
General Manager of the Philippines national team, Dan Palami, spoke highly of Eriksson and stressed the newly-appointed coach would make a mark in the Asian country.
"With his reputation, experience, and knowledge, there's no question he can help the team reach the next level," said Palami.
"There were a lot of countries and clubs interested in Sven's services, but we were able to sell him the idea of leaving a legacy here in the Philippines.”
