Frosinone will begin life in next season’s Italian Serie B with a legendary Italian defender in their dugouts after Alessandro Nesta was confirmed as the club’s new head coach.

The 43-year-old will take over at the Stadio Benito Stirpe on a two-year contract.

Frosinone were relegated from the Serie A last season after finishing in 19th place and amassing only 25 points.

Nesta is considered one of the greatest defenders of his generation having impressed for clubs like Lazio, AC Milan and also helping the Italian national team win the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany.

Nesta’s experience and knowledge in defence will be of huge benefit to a Frosinone side that conceded 69 goals in the league last season; the third most in the division after Empoli and Chievo Verona, who shipped in 70 and 75 goals respectively.

Nesta has previously spent time managing Miami FC in the North American Soccer League and also guided Perugia to an 8th place finish in Serie B last season but left the club last month.

Nesta, who won the Serie A defender of the year on four occasions, helped AC Milan secure the Serie A title twice and also emerged victorious in two Champions League finals with the Rossoneri.
