Rakitic Voices Discontent Over Lack Of Barca Playing Time
Ivan Rakitic has admitted his frustrations at a lack of playing time at Barcelona this season.
The 31-year-old has been relegated to the bench following the arrival of Dutch sensation Frenkie de Jong, making six of his seven appearances for Barcelona as a substitute.
The Croatian was heavily linked with an exit this summer, having offers from clubs like Juventus and PSG but in the end nothing materialized.
The former Basel and Schalke 04 midfielder is currently on international duty with Croatia ahead of EURO 2020 qualifying games against Hungary and Wales, and he has admitted he may look at other options in January if his current situation at Barcelona does not change.
'It's tough because I want to play and not just be part of the team,' Rakitic told Croatian media outlet 24sata.
'I will do everything possible to change my situation. I have two years left on my deal and there's no better place to play than Barcelona.
'It's the best club in the world, but I need to play and not just enjoy walks around the city and the beach.'
'I spoke with people at the club everyone knew I had other options. I want to fight so that the team see me ready to deliver on the pitch.
Rakitic joined the Catalan giants in the summer 2014 after an impressive 2013-2014 season with Sevilla.
In his first season at Barcelona, Rakitic won the treble and was included in both La Liga and UEFA Champions League teams of the season.
