Ghana Sack Chris Hughton After Early AFCON Exit

The Black Stars have been knocked out at the group stage of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations after failing to win any of their three games, losing to Cape Verde and drawing with Egypt and Mozambique.

Hughton was appointed in February 2023 after Otto Addo stepped down at the end of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

"Chris Hughton has been relieved of his duties as head coach of the senior national team with immediate effect," the Ghana Football Association said in a statement.

"The executive council has also taken a decision to dissolve the technical team of the Black Stars.

"The Ghana Football Association will in the coming days provide a roadmap on the future direction of the Black Stars.”

With two points, Ghana had faint hopes of nicking a spot in the knockout rounds as one of the best four third-placed teams but results on Tuesday went against them.

Hughton has previously managed the likes of Newcastle United, Brighton and Hove Albion and Nottingham Forest.
