Buendia Voted Championship Player Of The Season
Norwich City midfielder Emiliano Buendia has been voted as the Championship’s player of the season.
The 24-year-old, a reported long-term target for Arsenal, has been instrumental in the Canaries securing a swift return to the Premier League after suffering relegation last term.
Buendia has scored 14 goals and provided 16 assists in 37 Championship games to help Daniel Farke’s men win promotion from the second tier.
Buendia saw off competition from teammate Teemu Pukki, who won the award in 2019 and has scored 25 Championship goals this term, and Brentford’s Ivan Toney, who is the division’s top scorer with 29 strikes.
'It's been a nice season for me and the whole team,' Buendia told Norwich City’s website.
'When you get relegated in a difficult season like it was, the comeback has been amazing for the whole team. The spirit in the team during the whole season is amazing. To get promoted again in the way we did it is something incredible.
'When you get the confidence like I've felt this year from the club, the staff and my teammates, I can make the difference,' added the Argentinian, who joined Norwich from Getafe in Spain for £1.35m in 2018.
'I try to be close to the ball and score more compared to last year, but I always try to give an assist. I'm pretty happy with my numbers and stats because it means I can help the team to get the title.'
