The 23-year-old played the full 90 minutes on Sunday when Wolves defeated Aston Villa 2-1 at Molineux to move up to 8th on the Premier League table.

Traore’s involvement in the win has however come at a cost as he will be unable to honour his first call up to Spanish national team.

Traore was a late addition to the Spain squad, replacing injured Valencia forward Rodrigo Moreno, despite reportedly pledging his international allegiance to Mali just a few days earlier.

Traore was born in Spain to Malian parents and came through Barcelona’s famed La Masia academy.

He has represented Spain at youth level but this was supposed to be his first involvement with the senior side.

"Unfortunately, I will not be able to attend the call of the national team because of an injury in the game we played this Sunday against Aston Villa," Traore told the Spanish team's official website.

"I am sorry I cannot be in this call, but I will continue working to be in the best possible way for the next lists, God willing.

"I want to thank for the confidence that the coach has placed in me.

"This Monday I will have medical tests at my club, Wolverhampton, to know the extent of the injury."

Traore’s place in the Spain squad will be taken by Paris Saint Germain forward Pablo Sarabria.
