Spurs Overcome Kane Injury To Pip Man City

Son Heung Min was the hero for Tottenham Hotspurs as his brilliant individual effort gave them a 1-0 victory over Manchester City in the quarterfinal first leg game of the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday.

Manchester City will be cursing their stars as they missed a first-half penalty through Sergio Aguero and failed to take advantage of Harry Kane’s injury early in the second half.

Instead, it is Tottenham who will take a slim advantage to the Etihad Stadium for the second leg next Wednesday.

Spurs made a good start to the game with England midfielder Dele Alli flashing a volley over the bar in the 10th minute.

Two minutes later, there was controversy as Danny Rose was adjudged to have blocked a Raheem Sterling effort with his arm as was confirmed by the VAR.

A penalty was awarded, and Rose was yellow carded for the offence, but Sergio Aguero saw his effort saved brilliantly by Hugo Lloris in the Tottenham goal.

Tottenham were given the opportunity to take the lead in the 25th minute when the referee gave the hosts an advantage after Dele Alli had been fouled, but Harry Kane’s effort was palmed away by Ederson.

Raheem Sterling immediately tested Hugo Lloris after the break, and the ball was spilled by the French goalkeeper before Son Heung Min shot straight at Ederson from a Harry Kane through ball at the other end.

Tottenham were dealt a huge blow just 15 minutes into the second half when Harry Kane hobbled off after he appeared to roll his ankle in a coming together with Fabian Delph.

Tottenham however regrouped and got the lead through Son Heung Min, who recovered from a poor control after a Christian Eriksen pass, kept the ball in play, before shooting through Ederson for the game’s only goal.
