Mourinho Pleads For Ianni Stay
By Joshua Walters
Jose Mourinho has asked Chelsea not to sack Marco Ianni after the latter’s disrespectful act towards him on Saturday.
Ianni, who is one of Chelsea manager, Maurizio Sarri’s, assistants, came from the bench to celebrate Ross Barkley’s late equalizer in
front of Mourinho as the Blues salvaged a point at home against Manchester United in the match day-nine game at Stamford Bridge.
Mourinho pounced on him but was separated, and he announced later that Ianni, upon Sarri’s intervention, apologised to him and he accepted it.
There have been calls on Chelsea to sanction Ianni, and the club seems to be considering the option, much to the disagreement of the victim.
"I'm not happy that is going too far with the young boy”, said Mourinho.
“I don't think he deserves more than what he got. He apologised to me and I accepted his apologies”.
“His club was strong with him and he went through a situation he recognises was wrong.”
“I think he deserves a second chance. I don't think he deserves to be sacked”.
“But I would really like the boy not to go through more than that. Let him work, everybody makes mistakes, I made mistakes, I hope they let the kid go.”
