Mourinho Hails Klopp Over Champions League Victory
By Joshua Walters
Jose Mourinho has heaped praises on Jurgen Klopp after Liverpool's Champions League success over Tottenham Hotspurs on Saturday.
Liverpool defeated Mauricio Pochettino’s side 2-0 at the Wanda Metropolitano stadium in Spain with goals from Mohamed Salah, who scored from a spot kick, and Divock Origi's late winner.
The all-English final was Liverpool's second consecutive final having missed out on the trophy to departed kings of Europe, Real Madrid, last season as it was also Klopp's first major trophy since 2012.
A defeat for Liverpool would have seen Klopp losing his fourth European final and Mourinho, who praised the German trainer for winning the trophy believes it would have been hard for him to lose it this time round.
“A manager who reached three Champions League Finals, it's hard to lose one, must be very, very hard to lose two and today.
“I think it's a phenomenal day of his life, of his career. As a colleague, I’m very happy with it.
"If Jurgen wins, it's an incredible achievement for him.
"If Jurgen doesn't win, you know... to lose three Champions League finals... phew... that has to be really, really hard.
“But he is a very positive guy, I'm sure he's just thinking about winning."
Jose Mourinho, who was sacked by Manchester United in last year December, has been contemplating over his future since then.
Liverpool’s Champions League victory has given their fans something to cheer about as they were pipped to the Premier League by Manchester City by a point despite their impressive run.
