Mohamed Salah Reveals He Likes The VAR Now
By Joshua Walters
Liverpool forward, Mohamed Salah has disclosed that he now likes the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) after his side benefited from the system which awarded them a debatable penalty in the Champions League final in Madrid against Tottenham.
Referee Damir Skomina, pointed to the spot for Moussa Sissoko's handball in the box soon after the start of the game as Salah crunched home a left-footed shot into the middle of the net.
The Reds sealed their victory with Divock Origi coming off the bench to score the late winner, as Liverpool defeated their domestic rivals Tottenham Hotspurs 2-0.
It was Liverpool's second final in two years having lost the first to Real Madrid in Kiev last season and Salah, who has previously stated his dislike for VAR as it debuts in the Premier League next season, is singing a different tune now.
“Basically we are guaranteed VAR next season, but I like it now. So it's great to win the game.
“Honestly I don't know what to say.
“Everybody's happy now, we've won the final. It's our second final in a row, and I got to play 90 minutes finally.
“There wasn't one great individual performance for anyone, but all the team were brilliant tonight.
“Congratulations to all of us and all the fans around the world.”
“I sacrificed a lot in my career, especially to leave my parents in Cairo to play football.
“To be an Egyptian in the Champions League, it's unbelievable. I'm very glad for that.”
The win marks the sixth time Liverpool have been crowned kings of Europe as manager Jurgen Klopp finally lays his hands on the big-eared trophy after two previous final losses.
