Maradona Claims He Has Antidote To Manchester United Struggles

Argentina great Diego Maradona says he has the capabilities of bringing back the glory days at Manchester United if he is given the chance to manage the 20-time English champions.

Manchester United have fallen behind England and Europe’s elite clubs ever since legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson retired at the end of the 2012/2013 season.

The Red Devils have not won the league title ever since Ferguson left, and they have also gone through four managerial reshuffles in that time while they failed to qualify for next season’s UEFA Champions League after they could only afford a sixth place finish.

Maradona, who currently manages Dorados in Mexico’s second division league, has hardly had a fruitful managerial career, unable to translate his successful playing career into the dugouts.

Maradona’s best achievement as a manager was when he led Argentina to the quarter-finals of the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa where they were routed 4-0 by Germany to exit the competition.

Regardless, the 1986 World Cup winner believes he can win trophies at Old Trafford if he is given the chance.

"If Manchester [United] need a coach, I'm the man to do it," he told FourFourTwo.

"I know they sell lots of shirts around the world, but they need to win trophies, too. I can do that for them.

"Manchester United used to be my favourite English team for so long. So many great players and a great team under Alex Ferguson.

"But now I have to say Man City [are my favourite English team]. I know you shouldn't change like that but it's because of Kun [Sergio Aguero]. We speak a lot and he plays in a very good team."
