Fabinho Feels Fred Has Been Made Scapegoat For Man Utd Struggles
Liverpool midfielder Fabinho feels compatriot Fred has been made a scapegoat for Manchester United's difficult start to the season.
The Red Devils have lost their opening two Premier League games of the season embarrassingly to Brighton and Hove Albion and Brentford.
Fred is one of the players that has come in for criticism, with United legends Roy Keane and Paul Scholes calling him out at this early stage of the season.
Erik Ten Hag's side will come up against Jurgen Klopp's men in the Premier League at Old Trafford on Monday, with both sides seeking their first wins of the campaign.
Ahead of the game, Fabinho has jumped to the defence of his fellow Brazilian, whom he feels does not get the credit he deserves even when he plays well.
"Sometimes I don't really understand the criticism of Fred because he is a regular player, he always plays good football," Fabinho said in the Telegraph.
"In general Manchester United have not been successful in the last seasons so you try to find a solution or you try to put the fault on some of the players and sometimes I think Fred is that player.
"But he is a good player. In the national team, he is always a starter, he always plays good and, yes, sometimes the player needs a little bit more confidence to play good.
"Last season he played really good football, maybe he was one of the best United players. This season United didn't start really good but I hope Fred will play good and United will stay playing like this."
