Insigne Wins It Late For Napoli Over Liverpool

Lorenzo Insigne scored a 90th-minute winner as Napoli recorded a 1-0 victory over Liverpool in Wednesday night's cagey Champions League encounter at the Stadio San Paolo.

Both teams went into the match day-two encounter occupying the 2nd spots of their respective leagues and appeared to be matching themselves on equal pegging until Insigne made the difference on the stroke of full time.

The win puts the Italian giants at the 1st position on the table and followed by PSG, with Liverpool 3rd as Red Star Belgrade languish at the bottom after two rounds of games.

Lorenzo Insigne latched on to a precise cross on the edge of the box in the 12th minute, but whistled wide of the right post, Lorenzo again went close to scoring  in the 16th minute after he unleashed a powerful shot which went a whisker over the crossbar, before Alisson Becker was forced into action to thwart Arkadiusz Milik shot in the 36th minute.

Arkadiusz Milik closed the first half with another invitation to Becker with a ball towards the post, and the Brazilian responded with a superb diving save to keep it out.

Arkadiusz Milik burst the second half to life in the 50th minute with a ferocious strike from the edge of the box which went towards the bottom right corner, but was blocked by Becker, and the Brazilian was on hand to save Liverpool again two minutes later when he pulled off a superb save to keep Fabian Ruiz’s strike from causing havoc.

Arkadiusz Milik fired a volley wide in the 59th minute, Mohamed Salah wasted a glorious opportunity to hit home ten minutes later by smashing a close-range effort wide, before Dries Mertens the woodwork in the 81st minute.

Both teams appeared to be heading to a stalemate before disaster struck for the visitors on the stroke of full time. Jose Callejon put the ball on a plate for Lorenzo Insigne, who stretched to score with a simple close-range finish.
