Mustafi Not Going Awol For Arsenal Exit
Arsenal defender Shkodran Mustafi says he is not interested in forcing his way out of the club.
Fallen down the pecking order in the new season, the 27-year-old centre-half was informed to find himself a new club during the summer transfer window.
But having failed to secure a move away from the club, Mustafi claims he will not enter into a war as a way to force his exit from the side.
"My father, who is my agent, spoke to the club. I am an Arsenal player and I've still got two years [left on my] contract," he told Sport Bild.
"I've never been someone who begins a war when something doesn't work out. I always said if it is possible, I am open to taking the next step. If not, I keep playing my football.
"The manager said he sees me the same way he sees every player in the team. That's why I played today and that's it. We're going to see what the future holds."
"I have got a wife and two kids, so they have to agree as well," he said. "When a German club shows interest and it suits me, then I am open for it."
Following the arrival of Spanish trainer Unai Emery, Mustafi has struggled to hold down a regular first-team spot as he made his first appearance of the season when Arsenal defeated Frankfurt 3-0 in their UEFA Europa League tie on Thursday.
With Arsenal occupying the seventh position in the table after five games, Mustafi is yet to feature for the Gunners in the Premier League when they host newly-promoted Aston Villa on Sunday.
The bulky defender, who is contracted to Arsenal until 2021 joined the last season’s Europa League losing finalists from Spanish LaLiga club Valencia for a fee speculated to be in the region £35 million in 2016.
