Meulensteen: Man United

Former Manchester United first team coach, Rene Meulensteen, says it will be a huge risk for the Red Devils should they sign Gareth Bale this summer because “it is difficult to see where he is at the moment.”

The former Tottenham Hotspurs star has been linked with a move to the Premier League and the likeliest destination will be Old Trafford.

Rumors has it that, Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane no longer want his services at the Bernabeu after spending six successful years with the Los Blancos.

The Real Madrid star who will be 30 next month is currently with the Wales national team in Hungary preparing for their Euro 2020 qualifier on Tuesday.

Though many expect him to come public with a statement about where he will ply his trade in the coming season, the Welshman has been silent.

Meulensteen who coached at United for 11 years has however questioned the wisdom of signing the forward, who will turn 30 next month.

"You would obviously talk about bringing a high-profile player in, but is Gareth Bale still at his best?" Meulensteen told talkSPORT.

"We all know he’s had his fair share of injuries, so it’s always a risk."

Meulensteen added: “it will only be beneficial to sign Bale if he could remain at his best.”

"But, on the other hand, a top notch Gareth Bale is a really good asset for Manchester United," he continued.

"He brings power, he brings pace and he can create and score goals.”

"It’s a bit difficult to see where he is at the moment, though."
