Hazard Steals Point For Chelsea Against Wolves
By Max Wise
Eden Hazard came to Chelsea’s rescue with a late strike to give the Blues a share of the spoils against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
The visitors were on the cusp of coming away with all three points until Hazard’s strike at the death denied them what would have been a famous victory.
Wolves have given the big boys are good run for their money this season, and they threatened to derail Chelsea’s push for Champions League football with another solid display.
Chelsea enjoyed the lion’s share of possession in the first half, but with Wolves camped in their own area, the hosts found it difficult to break them down.
Gonzalo Higuain peeled away from his marker in the 20th minute with an angled run into the penalty area and was found by N’golo Kante’s slide rule pass but the Argentine’s shot at the front post was palmed away by Rui Patricio.
In a bid to take the lead, Chelsea were caught on the counter and Wolves duly punished the hosts in the 56th minute after Diogo Jota run wide with the ball and pulled it back for Raul Jiminez to finish via a deflection.
Chelsea looked to pull level straight away and Gonzalo Higuain swiveled on the edge of the box, but his low shot was well saved by Portugal international goalkeeper Rui Patricio.
Rui Patricio again came to Wolves’ rescue two minutes later when he tipped Pedro’s 25 yard strike over the crossbar, and he again denied Willian with an excellent save to stop the Brazilian’s effort from curling into the far corner.
Chelsea however were not to be denied in stoppage time as Hazard received a short corner, skipped past Ruben Neves and drilled a low finish into the far corner past Rui Patricio.
