Germany Beats Turkey To Euro 2024 Hosting Rights

Germany has been given the nod to host the 2024 European soccer championship at a UEFA meeting in Switzerland Thursday.
The European football powerhouse and immediate past world champions beat competition from Turkey in a vote by officials from the continent’s soccer governing body, UEFA.
UEFA’s president, Aleksander Ceferin, accepted the bid by the German Football Association on Thursday after a campaign that saw politics and human rights concerns in Turkey play a central role.
Germany went into the campaign with a proven record, having hosted the 2006 FIFA World Cup, and the four-time World Champions hopes to use the winning of the hosting rights their early exit from the 2018 Mundial in Russia.
The defeat is Turkey’s fourth in a row after failing with bids to host Euro 2008, 2012 and 2016.
UEFA’s executive committee announced on Thursday it plans to use the Video Assistant Referee in the UEFA competitions, starting with next season’s Champions League and to Euro 2020 and beyond.
“We are confident that introducing V.A.R.s in August 2019 will give us enough time to put in place a robust system and to train match officials to ensure an efficient and successful implementation of V.A.R. in the Champions League,” Ceferin said.
