Wan-Bissaka Better Than Alexander-Arnold, Says Van Aanholt
Dutch footballer Patrick Van Aanholt believes his former Crystal Palace team-mate Aaron Wan-Bissaka is a better right-back than Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Van Aanholt played with Wan-Bissaka for two years in South London before the Englishman made a big move to Manchester United last summer.
During his last season with the Eagles, Wan-Bissaka’s won the club’s player of the year award following an impressive season.
The 22-year-old has continued to impress in the Premier League, having been an undisputable starter under coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, playing 26 league games before the season was suspended due to Covid-19.
Alexander-Arnold on other hand is arguably the best right-back in the world right now, having been a big part of a Liverpool side that won the Champions League last season.
The Englishman set a record for a defender when he provided 12 assists in the Premier League last season, has already beaten that record again this campaign, with 14 assists recorded in 29 games.
Despite the Liverpool-born star’s stupendous personal records, Van Aanholt still favours Wan-Bissaka.
“Better than Alexander-Arnold? Without a shadow of doubt," he told the Counter Attack podcast when asked about United's young star.
“They are different players. Defensively, Aaron is unbelievable, better than Trent.”
"Yes, Trent has got his attacking and his corners, his right foot. But if you ask Wilf [Zaha] who he would want to play against, every other day, Trent or Wan-Bissaka, I think he will say Trent."
“I have got respect for Trent, because he does everything with his assists and he is great, but defensively, just ask Sterling how good Wan-Bissaka is," he added.
"It is a problem, and he will switch. He is one of the best right-backs, I think he could be, his attacking is good, but he needs more goals or assists to his name.
“Defending comes first, but in the modern game, you need to attack, and at United, you get more of the ball, so go forward and show what you have got, but he has been doing good."
