Busquets Extends Barcelona Stay To 2023
By Nigel Phillips
Sergio Busquets has committed his future to Barcelona by signing a new five-year contract extension with the La Liga champions.
The indispensable midfielder's original deal was scheduled to expire in 2022, but the new deal extends his life at the Camp Nou to 2014.
The Spanish international is one of the most sought-after holding midfielders in the football circus, currently, and Barcelona have made it expensive for the player to be priced out of the contract by increasing his buyout clause from € 200 million to €500 million.
The announcement comes just a day after Barcelona suffered a humiliating 2-1 defeat at Leganes at the 12, 450-capacity Estadio Municipal de Butarque.
The 30-year-old Busquets has spent eleven seasons at the La Blaugrana since his graduation from the club’s academy.
Over the period, Busquets has won seven La Liga titles, six Copas del Rey, three Champions League trophies, and a host of other titles.
Bisquets has also scored 13 goals in 490 appearances as Barcelona’s first-choice holding midfielder.
