Emery Admits Champions League Qualification Tough For Arsenal

By Joshua Walters

Arsenal’s manager Unai Emery has admitted that it will be difficult for his side to secure a Champions League spot this season.

The Spaniard trainer has disclosed that the only way Arsenal can qualify for the European top flight inter-club championship next season is to avoid further slips in the remaining games for the 2018/19 Priemier League season.

Arsenal opened an eight-point gab against Manchester United, then managed by Jose Mourinho, but are now at pal on points under new manager Ole Gunnar Solksjaer who has won all five game under his watch.

The last straw that broke the camel’s back was Arsenal’s 1-0 defeat at West Ham United on Saturday and Manchester United 1-0 win over Tottenham Hotspurs at the Wembley Stadium on Sunday.

Gunners have dropped to fifth on the league log with forty-one points from twenty-two games and are now tied on points with sixth placed Manchester United though they have two more goals than the Old Trafford club.

“Now it's more difficult, it's clear.”

“I think the most important thing for us is to recover our confidence and be more competitive. We need consistency over 38 matches.” “Now it isn't enough at the moment. It's a bad result. If we can win, we are playing against Chelsea [on Saturday] with a three-point maximum distance.”

“The big opportunity for us is that we can take in our hands the possibility to be closer to them. This result makes that more difficult."

“It's our challenge. Each match is our challenge away.”

“We are working on that. It's also the opposition team.”

"Like here [at West Ham], for example, they are with their supporters, they feel good and strong and can push. We need to take more confidence, more performance collectively, being competitive away to change this moment.”

“We started the season away well, being competitive and winning.”

“And then sometimes we are doing but like today [Saturday] we need to do more to be more competitive and to impose our idea and our quality. Today West Ham also have very big players.”
