Veron Plots Iniesta Swoop For Estudiantes
President of Argentine Superliga side Estudiantes de la Plata, Juan Sebastien Veron, has revealed that talks are ongoing with Andres Iniesta over a possible switch from Japanese side Vissel Kobe.
Estudiantes recently signed Iniesta’s former teammate at Barcelona, Javier Mascherano, and are looking to reunite the two in Argentina.
Another of Iniesta’s Barcelona teammates, Gabriel Millito, is the current manager of Estudiantes, who currently lie 13th in the Argentina league.
Iniesta left Barcelona in the summer of 2018 and has since starred for Vissel Kobe in the Japan league where he contracted until 2021.
Despite Iniesta’s advancing years, Veron is keen to add his experience and guile to the Estudiantes midfield, and has confirmed that have started with the 35-year-old.
"Today, we can't say that there are negotiations with Iniesta," Veron told La Oral Deportiva. "[But] yes, there are talks.
"[Trying to sign] Iniesta is something that people will not forget about, regardless of whether it materialises or not."
Veron added: "Having Javier in the club is an important fact, not only for Estudiantes but also for Argentine football, for all that he is as a person and a professional."
Iniesta is one of the most gifted midfielders of his generation and a hugely popular figure in world football, having scored the winning goal when Spain beat Netherlands 1-0 to lift the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.
His incredible achievements include nine Spanish La Liga titles and four UEFA Champions League trophies with Barcelona.
