Chelsea Reject Hudson-Odoi Transfer Request
By Max Wise
Chelsea have made it clear to Callum Hudson-Odoi they will not sell him in the January transfer window despite the English youngster handing in a transfer request last week.
Hudson-Odoi has been the subject of a £35m bid from Bayern Munich, who have promised him more game time than he currently enjoys at Chelsea.
The German champions will lose wingers Arjen Robben and Frank Ribery after their contracts expire at the end of the season, and they want Hudson-Odoi to fill the void to be left by the departing duo.
Chelsea’s signing of Gonzalo Higuain means Eden Hazard will revert to the wings from the ‘false nine’ position, leaving Hudson-Odoi to battle it out with the Belgian, Willian, Pedro and Christian Pulisic who will join the Blues at the end of the season from Borussia Dortmund.
The 18-year-old has made ten appearances so far in the current campaign for Chelsea and has scored twice, including last Sunday’s strike against Sheffield Wednesday in the FA Cup.
English youngsters Jadon Sancho and Reiss Nelson are impressing in the Bundesliga with Borussia Dortmund and Hoffenheim respectively, and Hudson-Odoi would like to follow suit.
Chelsea’s stance on Hudson-Odoi means his value will drop when he enters the final year of his contract at the end of the season unless they can convince him to sign a new deal.
Chelsea have been very active in the January transfer window, bringing in Gonzalo Higuain and Christian Pulisic, while Cesc Fabregas, Victor Moses and Alvaro Morata have left for AS Monaco, Fenerbahce and Atletico Madrid respectively.
