Cech Returns To Chelsea As Technical And Performance Advisor
By Joshua Walters
Retired Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech has returned to his former club Chelsea to operate as technical and performance advisor.
Having joined Chelsea as a player in 2004 after an impressive career at Rennes, Cech enjoyed 11 successful years at Stamford Bridge, as he proved to be one of the world’s greatest goalkeepers at that time.
Cech left Chelsea to joined city rivals Arsenal in 2015 with Belgian shot-stopper Thibaut Courtois replacing him at Chelsea.
He became a regular figure for the Gunners for three years before turning to a back-up to Bernd Leno in his final campaign.
The former Rennes goalkeeper disclosed his retirement plans from the sport in January after it was speculated that the 37-year-old will return to the Blues, and the club has confirmed their former player is heading back to the club as a technical and performance advisor.
In an interview with Chelsea website about his new role at the club, Cech was quoted saying
"I feel very privileged to have this opportunity to join Chelsea again and help create the best possible high-level performance environment to continue the success the club has had over the past 15 years.
"I'm looking forward to the new challenge and hope I can use all of my football knowledge and experience to help the team achieve even more success in the future."
The former Czech professional footballer retired from the domain after Arsenal's Europa League final defeat by the Chelsea in May.
Throughout his 20 years in professional football, Cech helped Chelsea to win their first-ever Champions League trophy in 2012 as he also won the Premier League title on four different occasions.
