Kieran Trippier is free to play for Atletico Madrid once again after his 10-week ban from football was temporarily halted by FIFA, pending the conclusion of an appeal.

Trippier was issued the ban by the Football Association on December 23 for betting breaches, which would have seen him denied the opportunity to play for Atletico Madrid until March 1.

The 30-year-old has already missed one game against Getafe in midweek and has not been included in the Rojiblancos squad for Sunday’s away game at Deportivo Alaves.

Trippier, who was also fined £70,000, would have also missed Atletico’s UEFA Champions League round of 16 first leg clash against Chelsea on February 23.

Tripper was charged for the breaches in May last year, with the offenses thought to have occurred in July 2019 during his time with Tottenham Hotspurs.

The regulation which Trippier is thought to have breached states: "Where a participant provides to any other person any information relating to football which the participant has obtained by virtue of his or her position within the game and which is not publicly available at that time, the participant shall be in breach of this rule where any of that information is used by that other person for, or in relation to, betting."

On Sunday, FIFA released a statement saying "Following the appeal and, specifically, the request for provisional measures lodged by the club Atletico Madrid, the FIFA Appeal Committee has approved to stay the extension of the suspension against Kieran Trippier until the procedure is over before the FIFA Appeal Committee."

Trippier has made 19 appearances in all competitions for Atletico Madrid this season.
