Liverpool received a staggering £70 million for their participation in the 2017/18 UEFA Champions League, beating Premier League rivals Manchester United, Manchester City, and Chelsea.

The Red were losing finalists as Real Madrid beat them 3-1 to retain the trophy for the third consecutive time, but the reward for reaching that level could be a consolation.

Chelsea, who could not qualify for this year’s competition, are the second biggest earners in the Premier League as they bagged £57 million for making the round of 16.

Manchester City eliminated their crosstown rivals Manchester United to make it to the quarterfinals, but pocketed £56 million, a million dollar less than the Blues.

Manchester United exited the competition in the round of 16, and for their troubles, received a paltry £35 million.

The money is distributed by Europe’s football governing body, UEFA, and the factors that determine the amount a club will receive includes the number of clubs from the association in the next season's competition, where each club finished last season in their respective domestic competition and how they performed in the European competition itself.

Champions Real Madrid topped the list with £77 million, followed by Roma with £73 million.
