Thiago Silva Braced For Erling Haaland Test As Champions League Returns
Paris Saint Germain captain Thiago Silva is excited with the prospect of testing himself against Erling Haaland when the French champions meet Borussia Dortmund in the UEFA Champions League round of 16 stage on Tuesday.
Haaland has been in scintillating form since joining Dortmund from Austrian side Red Bull Salzburg in the January transfer window for £17m.
The 19-year-old Norwegian has already scored nine goals in just six games for Dortmund.
Eight of those goals have come in the Bundesliga, and despite playing just 59 minutes of league football, Haaland has recently been named Bundesliga player of the month for January.
"He scores a lot of goals," Silva told RMC Sport after PSG's enthralling 4-4 draw with Amiens on Saturday.
"Nine goals in six games, it's incredible, it's huge.
"I hope that we will be able to be cautious and that he will not score against us, but rather after in the league.
"But for us it's wonderful to play against a player like that, especially since he's just started his career. He is very motivated, but so are PSG.
Haaland scored eight Champions League goals for Salzburg this season before leaving for Dortmund.
Dortmund will go into the game full of confidence, having dispatched Eintracht Frankfurt 4-0 on Friday while PSG could only take a point against relegation-threatened Amiens in their Ligue 1 game.
Silva is however undaunted by the trip to the Signal Iduna Park, where PSG manager Thomas Tuchel will be making a return to his former club.
The 35-year-old Brazilian added: "Are we afraid? We have no fear, but we have a lot of respect. I saw the match [against Eintracht Frankfurt], they have a lot of quality in front, they scored four goals, with incredible technique, movements that are difficult to fight."
