Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed that they have returned the solitary positive case from the Premier League’s fifth round of routine Covid-19 tests.

A total of 1,197 individuals from Premier League clubs were tested on Monday and Tuesday.

Although Premier League officials declined putting out the name of the club or player involved, Tottenham released a statement on their website confirming the positive case came from their camp.

"We have been informed by the Premier League that we have received one positive test for COVID-19 following the latest round of testing at our training centre," the statement read.

"Due to medical confidentiality, the individual’s name will not be disclosed.

"They are currently asymptomatic and will now self-isolate for seven days, in line with Premier League protocol, before undergoing further testing.

"We shall continue to strictly adhere to the Premier League's return to training protocol, which ensures our training centre remains a safe and virus-free working environment."

Six players and staff from three Premier League clubs tested positive for the virus when the first tests were done on May 19 including Watford’s Adrian Mariappa and Burnley assistant manager Ian Woan.

Two more positive cases were detected in the second round of testing, with one of those being Bournemouth goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale.

Four more positive cases were recorded in the third round while the fourth round of testing produced no positive cases.

The Premier League has announced June 17 as the date to resume the league which was put on hold in March.
