Solskjaer Likens Fernandes To Man United Legend Paul Scholes
Manchester United head coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has compared the talent of new signee Bruno Fernandes to former England midfielder Paul Scholes.
Fernandes joined the Premier League outfit last month from Sporting CP in a deal worth around £46.6 million.
The former Novara and Udinese man has already showed glimpses of his quality in his first three games in England.
Ahead of Manchester United’s home league match against Watford, Solskjaer believes Fernandes will have the same impact on his team like what Scholes had on the Manchester-based club during his playing days.
“He reminds me of Scholesy as a player but definitely a different type of personality off the pitch,” the Norwegian coach said of the Portuguese.
“Against Club Brugge, when he’s on the bench, he walks around, he speaks to the players who start, he helps them, and he gives them points.”
“And the 10 minutes he played you could see that there’s a difference in our team.”
“He’s another conductor and leader and winner. He wants to win. He doesn’t take 99 per cent as good enough and he’s impressed me.”
“That’s something you see when you watch him but you don’t know about until you have him in your group. He’s been top class.”
Scholes played 499 Premier League games for the Red Devils between 1993 and 2013, winning 11 league titles and scoring 107 goals in the process.
