Saul Niguez Focused On Atletico Madrid Despite Man United Links
Saul Niguez says he remains focused at Atletico Madrid despite transfer speculations linking him with a move to Manchester United.
The 25-year-old Spaniard only signed a bumper nine-year contract extension with the Rojiblancos back in 2017 but that has not prevented him from being courted by some of Europe’s biggest clubs.
Saul came through the ranks of the Atletico Madrid youth system in 2012 and has so far made over 180 top flight appearances for Diego Simeone’s men.
Saul insists he knows nothing about press reports linking him with a move away from the Wanda Metropolitano, and is only concerned with Atletico Madrid moving up the La Liga table as the Spanish top flight springs back into action following a three-month hiatus because of the coronavirus pandemic.
"I see things on Instagram or in newspapers which you publish, but I haven't heard anything from any club," Saul told Radio Marca.
"I'm focused on finishing this season, achieving the objective [of finishing in the top four] and then dreaming about the Champions League.
"I have a long-term contract, which I signed because I want to stay here. I don't have any problem staying here because my family are here, it's my home.
"People say, 'come out and deny it', but then if you deny it and something happens, you look bad.
"I just stick to playing football and what has to happen will happen, I'm just focused on achieving Atletico's target, which is to be in the top four, and then try to get the most desired target of the season."
Atletico Madrid, who travel to Athletic Bilbao on Sunday, lie sixth on the La Liga table but are into the quarterfinals of the UEFA Champions League after eliminating holders Liverpool in the previous round.
Saul has made 37 appearances in all competitions for Atletico this season, scoring four goals.
