Sane Delighted To Make Injury Comeback
Manchester City winger Leroy Sane says he is thrilled to be back after stepping up his recovery from injury in the club’s u-23 game against Arsenal on Friday.
Sane, a rumoured Bayern Munich target for much of last summer, suffered an anterior cruciate ligament damage against Liverpool in the Community Shield in August and had not played since.
The 2017/2018 PFA Young Player of the Year returned to training last month and he featured for 57 minutes as Manchester City’s u-23 side defeated Arsenal’s u-23 4-2 at the Emirates Stadium on Friday.
"It felt really good," Sane said afterwards. "It was good to get a general feeling of how it is to be back on the pitch and how quick it can all be.
"There's still a gap until I'm 100 per cent and on the level I was before. There's no doubt about that, but generally, everything feels good.
"I feel confident and I had no problems, so I am happy with today. Of course it would be good if I could get back as soon as possible to the best I can be, like I was before. But I'm not putting a lot of pressure on myself to do that.
"I have to get used to the tempo and how quick it is because if you're out for the time I was, you have to get up to speed."
Sane’s return will be a welcome boost to a Pep Guardiola side who look set to hand over their Premier League title to Liverpool, but Sunday’s Carabao Cup final against Aston Villa will come too soon for the Germany international to be involved with City’s first team.
