Raya Hails Competition With Ramsdale To Be Arsenal's Number One
David Raya believes he has become a better goalkeeper from his battles with Aaron Ramsdale to become Arsenal's number one.
Raya joined Arsenal on loan from Brentford at the start of the season and has so far made 17 appearances across all competitions.
The 28-year-old Spain international became the first goalkeeper to keep a clean sheet against Brighton and Hove Albion in the Premier League this season in Sunday's 2-0 win at the Emirates Stadium.
The debate continues as to who deserves to start between the sticks at Arsenal, but Raya is only concerning himself with how competition is bringing out the best from the club's goalkeeping unit.
Asked if the battle has made him a better goalkeeper, Brentford loanee Raya replied: “Of course, and I think I have made him a better goalkeeper.
“I think that battle – I wouldn’t say battle, it’s just pushing each other in training, trying to help each other.
“If we see with each other when we are training that we can help each other, that’s how we are and that’s how we do. That’s the GK union that from the outside that you see.
“He is a top, top goalkeeper and a top, top team-mate. I hope he can say the same about me! We are team-mates, we are fighting for one position.”
