Premier League Player Of The Season Shortlist Announced
The Premier League has announced an eight-man shortlist for its player of the season award.
Last season’s winner Kevin De Bruyne has once again been included on the list alongside Manchester City teammate Ruben Dias.
The others include West Ham United’s Czech Republic midfielder Tomas Soucek, Chelsea’s Mason Mount, Bruno Fernandes, Mohammed Salah, Jack Grealish and Tottenham Hotspurs’ Harry Kane.
Kane enjoyed his most productive season in the top flight, winning the golden boot with 23 goals and laying on 14 assists for his teammates.
Mount, who lifted the UEFA Champions League with Chelsea on Saturday, played 36 times in the top flight for Chelsea, scoring six goals and providing five assists.
Soucek was an ever-present for West Ham this season, adding ten goals to boot as David Moyes’ men picked up a Europa League spot by finishing sixth.
Former winner Salah finished just one goal shy of golden boot winner Kane as the Egyptian chipped in with 22 goals in a troubled season for Liverpool, who eventually finished in third place.
Grealish was a bright spot for a rejuvenated Aston Villa side who finished the campaign in 11th place. The 25-year-old provided 10 assists and scored six times in 26 appearances.
Fernandes continued his fine form since arriving at Old Trafford last year. The Portuguese scored 18 goals and provided 12 assists for second placed Manchester United.
Dias helped Manchester City keep 15 clean sheets in his 32 appearances in his debut season as the Citizens wrestled the title back from Liverpool while De Bruyne provided 12 assists and scored six times for Pep Guardiola’s side.
