Tottenham Punish Wasteful Leicester in Dramatic 3-1 Win

Tottenham Hotspurs closed in on the Premier League top two with a dramatic 3-1 win over Leicester City at Wembley on Sunday.
Spurs had goalkeeper Hugo Lloris to thank for making some crucial stops on the day, including saving a Jamie Vardy spot kick in the second half.
Leicester had a couple of decent half chances in the opening exchanges of the game but the best of them fell to England defender Harry Maguire who forced a tip-over save from Hugo LLoris after getting to the end of a James Maddison cross in the 9th minute.
Tottenham’s chief of assists Christian Eriksen provided the opening for Davison Sanchez to score the game’s first goal. The Colombian defender rose highest to power home an in-swinger past Schmeichel for his first ever Tottenham goal in the 33rd minute.
Winger Demarai Gray, playing in an unorthodox striker’s position in the absence of the dropped Jamie Vardy, should have done better but could only direct his header from Ricardo Pereira’s cross straight into the arms of Hugo Lloris shortly after the break.
Drama soon unfolded at Wembley as Leicester were awarded a penalty after Vertonghen tumbled with Maddison inside the penalty area. Jamie Vardy was brought on straight after the spot kick was awarded and took the ball away from Maddison only to have his penalty saved brilliantly by Lloris in the 60th minute.
Three minutes later Leicester were made to pay for their profligacy infront of goal when Eriksen benefited from Llorente’s pass to strike past Schmeichel from 20 yards out.
Vardy finally atoned for his earlier miss when he converted Pereira’s low pass in the 76th minute to set up a frantic finale at Wembley.
As the clock ticked away Leicester committed men forward and they were made to pay after a Spurs clearance found Son Heung Min on the half way line who outpaced Jonny Evans to slot past the goalkeeper to seal all three points.
