Liverpool Sign Youngest Ever Premier League Player
European champions Liverpool have signed the youngest ever player to play in the Premier League, Harvey Elliott, from Fulham.
Elliott, who does not turn 17 until next April, became the youngest player to feature in England’s top flight aged 16 years and 30 days in May, after coming on as substitute in Fulham’s 1-0 loss away to Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Following the Cottagers relegation to the second tier of English football, Elliott failed to agree terms on a new contract, and Liverpool have moved swiftly to snatch the highly-rated winger from the clutches of Arsenal, Real Madrid, Paris Saint Germain and Manchester City, who were all keeping tabs on the youngster.
Speaking of the move on his Instagram page, Elliott said: "I am so happy to be able to announce that I have signed for Liverpool FC.”
"To have joined the club that I supported as a boy is a dream come true for me and all of my family and it’s an incredible feeling to now officially be able to call myself a Red! I can’t wait to get started and it will be a truly special feeling to pull the famous red jersey on.
"I’ll work as hard as I possibly can for the club and I feel Anfield is the perfect place for me to develop and progress as a player."
Despite his young age, Elliott will be thrusted straight into the Liverpool first team, and will be in the squad that will take on Napoli in a friendly game later on Sunday.
Elliott is Jurgen Klopp’s second summer signing at Liverpool, joining young Dutch defender Sepp van den Berg, in moving to Anfield.
