Leeds United Owner Reveals Failed January Bids For Ibrahimovic And Cavani
Leeds United owner Andrea Radrizzani has revealed that the Premier League hopefuls unsuccessfully tried to sign Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Edinson Cavani during the January transfer window.
Leeds United are looking to make a return to the Premier League after a 16-year absence as they currently lead the Skybet Championship table after 37 games.
The Whites looked to augment their frontline in the winter after Eddie Nketiah cut short his loan spell at Elland Road and returned to Arsenal.
Ibrahimovic was a free agent after his contract at LA Galaxy expired but he ended up at AC Milan, where he has scored four goals in 10 games.
Cavani, whose contract with Paris Saint Germain expires at the end of the season, tried exiting the Parc des Princes after losing his starting spot to Mauro Icardi.
Asked about the reported interest in Cavani during an interview on Sky Sport Italia, Radrizzani replied: 'The (PSG) president had given me the availability to verify the interest with the player's brother.
'However, the negotiation never flew. I spoke more concretely with Zlatan (Ibrahimovic). He could give us a decisive push but he decided to go to (AC) Milan. He was very honest and transparent with me.'
"We need to be rational and coherent with the strategy of both coach and team. I did not even speak with (coach) Marcelo Bielsa about Cavani and Ibrahimovic because we never got to the stage that we could sit down and talk about them."
Cavani and Ibrahimovic are PSG’s top two goalscorers of all-time and their strike partnership in Paris yielded three league titles for the current French champions.
