Neil Warnock Tests Positive For Coronavirus
Middlesbrough manager Neil Warnock has tested positive for coronavirus, the Championship club have announced.
Warnock is self-isolating at home and will only return to the dugout after returning a negative test.
The 71-year-old did not take charge of the club in Tuesday’s Carabao Cup defeat to Barnsley after feeling unwell and subsequent tests conducted after the game revealed he has tested positive for covid-19.
A statement released on Thursday morning by Middlesbrough read: “The club can confirm that our manager Neil Warnock has returned a positive test for Covid-19 and will be spending a period in isolation in accordance with guidelines.
“Neil is in good spirits and we look forward to welcoming him back after his period in isolation.”
No new positive cases have been reported by the club.
Warnock took charge of Middlesbrough’s championship opener against Watford last Friday which ended in a 1-0 defeat.
The former Cardiff City, Sheffield United and Queens Park Rangers manager will miss Saturday’s home game against Bournemouth.
Assistant managers Kevin Blackwell and Ronnie Jepson will be in charge of that game even though Warnock will be responsible for picking the team.
Warnock was appointed manager at the Riverside Stadium in June, replacing Jonathan Woodgate at the helm, and helped the club avoid relegation from the championship.
