Lampard Rules Out Any Possibility Of Managing Spurs
Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has confidently disclosed that he will never manage Tottenham Hotspur because of his affection Chelsea.
Former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho made a similar vow that he would never coach the North Londoners due to his Chelsea allegiance but jumped at the opportunity to manager the Lilywhites on Wednesday following the dismissal of Mauricio Pochettino.
Speaking ahead of Chelsea’s trip to the Etihad Stadium, the former Derby County head coach has promised not to ever be the coach of Spurs, and has dared the media to ‘replay’ what he said in 10 years.
"I had 13 years here as a player then went to Manchester City at the end of my career,” Lampard told reporters.
“I have a lot of respect for this club, then and now, hence why I'll say I wouldn't manage...and you can replay that in 10 years!”
"What Chelsea has given me as a player and now, it (managing Tottenham) is certainly something that's not on my list."
The 41-year-old defended Mourinho when asked about what his former manager said in 2015.
He said: "He didn't see himself at Tottenham at the time, but you have to respect his right to work.”
Lampard has insisted that the Portuguese coach has a good team to work with, and they will be a threat to all the big teams.
"He's got a good team. They were a lot of people's favourites to be in the title race,” he added.
“They're now in what I think is a slightly false position, for whatever reason, but they have the players, the manager, and the structure is there - the stadium and the training ground.”
“They'll be a threat, without a doubt."
Lampard is aiming for a seventh successive league win when his young Blues take on Manchester City at the Etihad stadium.
