Kimmich Relishes Possible Guardiola Return To Bayern Munich
Bayern Munich defender Joshua Kimmich has admitted that he would love Pep Guardiola to return to the Allianz Arena for a second stint.
The Bundesliga champions parted ways with Niko Kovac a fortnight ago following a humiliating 5-1 loss to Eintracht Frankfurt.
Bayern Munich are yet to name Kovac’s full time replacement and Manchester City’s head coach has been linked to the vacant job.
The former Barcelona manager spent three seasons in Bavaria after taking over from Jupp Heynckes in 2013, winning three Bundesliga titles, two German Cups, a UEFA Super Cup and the Club World Cup.
Guardiola signed Kimmich from RB Leipzig, ahead of his last season in charge of the Bavarian giants, and the 24-year-old has since established himself as one of the best players in the team.
Speaking at a news conference ahead of Germany’s EURO 2020 qualifying game against Belarus, Kimmich lauded the Spanish coach for having an impact on his career.
"I know [Guardiola] and have a lot to thank him for. He took me from the second division and let me play in the Bundesliga," he told reporters.
"We won the double together and after that season I became a player for Germany. So, of course, I won't be against him coming back."
Guardiola has won two Premier League titles in his first three seasons at Manchester City, including the domestic treble.
The 48-year-old has a contract with the English champions until 2021.
