Kane Urges Tottenham To Target Conference League To End Trophy Drought
Harry Kane has urged Tottenham Hotspurs to target the Europa Conference League as a means of ending their trophy drought.
It appears UEFA's third club competition represents Tottenham's best chance of playing European football next season, although the Europa League is still a possibility.
A 1-0 win over Crystal Palace over the weekend lifted Tottenham into sixth position on the table, with Kane scoring the only goal of the game.
A generally disappointing 2022/2023 campaign has seen Tottenham miss out on silverware once again, with their last trophy coming in the shape of the 2008 League Cup.
Although the England captain's future in North London remains uncertain, Kane believes Spurs should channel their energy towards lifting the Conference League next season.
“We’ve got three games left, a big game against Villa next week away,” Kane said.
“Obviously Brighton have a few games in hand on us. If we can come away from this season with European football, that’s a small prize at the end of a tough season.
“We’ll be fighting for that and fighting in the three games to try to pick up three wins.
“Ultimately I like to play football games no matter what competition it is. That’s what you deserve from where you finish in the season.
“You can’t disrespect any competition that you play in. It’s one of those, if you end up in the Conference League and win it, it’s worth it. If you don’t, then people probably look at it as an inconvenience.
“But when you’ve been at a club where we haven’t won a trophy for 15 years, if we do end up in it, it could be an opportunity to try and put that to bed.”
